With weekend temperatures expected in the mid- to upper-90s, Texas Motor Speedway officials are adding several measures to help fans combat the heat throughout this weekend’s DXC Technology 600 tripleheader weekend at the world-renowned motorsports facility.
The three featured races – Friday’s NASCAR Camping World Truck Series PPG 400 and Saturday’s Verizon IndyCar Series DXC Technology 600 and SPEED Energy Stadium SUPER Trucks – are all evening races, but Texas Motor Speedway is taking precautionary measures, especially for those fans that plan to spend the majority of their day at the venue.
Among the measures will be:
- Two cooling busses will be located adjacent to the outfield care center that is outside of Gate 7 of the frontstretch grandstands. The busses will be available to any fans dealing with heat-related issues and need some air-conditioning to cool down.
- The Fort Worth Fire Department will bring its cooling trailer that will be stationed between Gates 4 and 5 on the concourse. It is an additional and closer option to the busses for the fans in the grandstand.
- Portacool cooling fans will be stationed on the concourse between main gate entrances 3 and 4 as well as 5 and 6.
- Cooling towels – small, disposable towels soaked in ice water – will be available at various locations throughout the concourse and will be distributed by speedway volunteers.
A tented cooling station with two Portacool units will be positioned in the Ruckus off-road expo area on the south side of the infield. - For any serious heat-related issues or possible treatment, fans are encouraged to visit the outfield care center across from Gate 7. Fans can alert concourse ushers, security guards or speedway employees if they are in need of assistance.
The race week schedule opens today with a pair of afternoon NASCAR Camping World Truck Series practices (3:05 and 5:05 p.m.). On Friday, the Verizon IndyCar Series will have U.S. Concrete Qualifying Day at 3 p.m. CT as well qualifying for the NASCAR Camping World Truck Series at 4:45 p.m. and then the PPG 400 NCWTS race at 8 p.m.
On Saturday, action begins with a SPEED Energy Stadium SUPER Trucks race at 5:15 p.m., followed by the DXC Technology 600 Verizon IndyCar Series race at 7:45 p.m. and then the Stadium SUPER Trucks finale 30 minutes after the checkered flag for the INDYCAR race.
