Cancun, Mexico. That’s been my only out of country experience for as far back as I can remember. Never thought I would get much further than that until years from now when I would begin to check off bucket list destinations.
Then somebody brought up the idea of taking a Texas Music party to London, England. Uh, Yes. Please.
That is exactly what the Texas Music Takeover is. We gather some of our own, jet over to the United Kingdom, check into the hotel and then hit the gas!
Now the thought of traveling with some of your favorite Texas Singer / Songwriters to a foreign land to spend the week with them and see them play ought to be exciting enough for anyone to jump on. As excited as we all are to expand the boundaries of Texas Music and show it off in London, believe me, they are just as excited to see us. These two trains of thoughts crashing head on into one another makes for one of the most fantastic weeks I’ve ever had.
We tend to be a little spoiled rotten around here. We have the opportunity to see these artist all the time. For our London friends, to see us coming is as exciting as that first gift of Christmas. It takes the first down beat of the first song for two totally different walks of life to instantly become family. While we watch our own entertain the London masses, it’s almost as if we’re seeing them for the first time too by seeing the excitement and joy on the faces of our new found friends. Let the world tell you what it may about the differences and hostility of society today, but the truth is in the music. It all seems to wash away with one giant sing along.
Don’t let it be lost that we too are experiencing what they have to offer as well. Some of us, myself included, for the first time. Last year we had perfect weather and seeing London come to life from only pictures and videos I’ve seen was sincerely, postcard-esque.
The architecture, the history, The London Bridge. Though we’ve all sung it a thousand times, in no way is it falling down! You’re standing on it and it’s awesome. Westminster Abbey, The Queens Guard, Double Decker buses, Tower of London, Buckingham Palace, Shakespeare’s Global Theatre, Piccadilly Circus and by all means, Abbey Road. You’ll immerse yourself into all of it and try to find a way to see it all. We found the London Pass to be helpful in planning because I’ve not even scratched the surface on all there is to do and see.
The Texas Music Takeover crew will have your nights planned with fantastic shows from our Texas Musicians. Don’t be surprised if one of the locals joins the mix either! They got their own thing there too. To them, it’s just country music though.
It really is almost impossible to describe in printed word. Pictures often serve no justice versus when your actually there.
Put some good ol’ American dollars aside and give good thought to turning them into British pounds. It’s the trip of lifetime with Texas remaining in reach. If you find yourself homesick, like Gary P. Nunn once did, we can always grab our Texas Singer / Songwriter buddies in the lobby of the hotel at 2am and have Texas Jam Session.
Join me and The Ranch this October. Texas Music Takeover 2018.
